Laboratory Manager
CREGG Recruitment are currently hiring an Laboratory Manager.
The Laboratory Manager is a hands-on key member of the team to ensure the smooth day to day running of Veterinary laboratory operations. You will be required to be involved with the day-to-day operations of the Lab as well as being directly responsible for the management of the Lab team and supporting day to day activities.

This is a permanent role:
Location: Cork
Hours of work: This role is fully onsite due to testing. Monday – Friday 40hours
Roles & Responsibilities
- People management (staff absences, rota, training, appraisals etc).
- Communicate! Keep your team informed of changes around the organisation, process change, or what’s happening across the Group.
- Maintain the laboratory inventory and work with Procurement to purchase laboratory supplies and equipment. Ensure there is a sufficient amount of stock at all times to deal with fluctuation in demand of different tests.
- Be involved with receiving tests, processing samples and supporting the Lab team.
- Manage the client relationships. Ensure the veterinary practices are kept informed of any delays or issues with processing samples.
- Keep a record and report on KPI’s such as turnaround times, balanced scorecard returns, customer satisfaction / customer complaints, wastage reporting etc
- Check and authorise invoices as delegated, raising and resolving queries as and when required.
- There will be a joint responsibility to work with the H&S Lead to ensure safe working practices at all times in your Lab. This may require preparing COSHH, carrying out Risk Assessments etc. It is your responsibility to keep your team informed of any H&S changes, ensuring that any incident is logged and reported and that your Lab has safe working practices at all times.
- Ensure that all vital laboratory equipment is covered by an appropriate maintenance contractor and monitor renewal dates to ensure there is no disruption to our Lab operations. Coordinate maintenance visits.
Qualifications
BSc with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience either in a Veterinary environment, or an academic or industrial research lab.
- Ability to meet project milestones manage expectations for specific projects, ensure delivery of technology/transfer/submission-ready technology, data and documents.
- Experience in problem-solving skills and instrument troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, especially adherence to laboratory notebook practices.
