Head of Sales

Our client, a well-established and growing company in the renewable energy/solar industry are now seeking a Head of Sales to join their team to assist with their growth plans over the coming years. The successful candidate will be a high-performing & technically minded Sales professional with a proven track in a senior sales leadership role ideally in the renewable energy or construction industry.

Reports To: CEO
Type: Full-time, Permanent – Onsite/Hybrid

Role Overview: The Head of Sales will take full ownership of the company’s sales function, with responsibility for driving revenue growth, leading and developing the sales team, and implementing scalable sales strategies. This is a senior leadership role focused on building a high-performance sales culture, improving conversion rates, and ensuring predictable and sustainable business growth. The successful candidate will be expected to operate independently, taking full responsibility for sales performance, enabling the CEO to focus on broader strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Sales Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, manage, and develop the national sales team
  • Recruit, onboard, and retain high-performing sales professionals
  • Establish a performance-driven culture with clear targets and accountability
  • Conduct regular one-to-one reviews, performance evaluations, and coaching sessions
  • Motivate and inspire the team to consistently exceed targets

2. Training & Development

  • Design and implement structured sales training programmes
  • Continuously improve product, technical, and consultative selling knowledge across the team
  • Ensure all sales staff are aligned with company messaging, compliance, and customer experience standards
  • Develop onboarding frameworks for new hires

3. Sales Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual sales plans
  • Set clear KPIs, targets, and forecasting models
  • Identify market trends and adjust strategy accordingly
  • Create scalable processes to support nationwide growth

4. Revenue Growth & Pipeline Management

  • Take full ownership of sales pipeline and revenue targets
  • Ensure strong lead conversion rates from enquiry to closed sale
  • Work closely with marketing to optimise lead generation and quality
  • Identify bottlenecks in the sales funnel and implement improvements

5. Reporting & Performance Analysis

  • Provide detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the CEO
  • Track key metrics: conversion rates, cost per acquisition, sales cycle, revenue per rep
  • Deliver accurate sales forecasting and performance insights
  • Use CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, OpenSolar, Monday.com) effectively for reporting and tracking

6. Pricing & Commercial Strategy

  • Develop and maintain competitive pricing strategies
  • Ensure margins are protected while remaining competitive in the market
  • Analyse competitor pricing and positioning
  • Work with operations and procurement to align pricing with costs

7. Business Development & Growth Planning

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities (residential, commercial, agricultural)
  • Explore strategic partnerships (e.g., finance providers, credit unions, commercial clients)
  • Expand into new markets and service offerings (e.g., heat pumps, insulation, EV charging)
  • Drive initiatives that support long-term revenue growth

8. Customer Experience & Sales Quality

  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality customer journey from first contact to handover
  • Monitor customer feedback and continuously improve sales approach
  • Reduce cancellations and improve customer satisfaction metrics
  • Ensure all sales activities are compliant with SEAI and industry regulations

9. Process Optimisation & Systems

  • Implement and refine sales processes, scripts, and workflows
  • Improve CRM usage, automation, and reporting accuracy
  • Standardise quoting, follow-ups, and closing procedures
  • Introduce efficiencies to increase productivity per sales rep

10. Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Work closely with operations, project management, and installation teams
  • Ensure smooth handover from sales to delivery
  • Align sales commitments with operational capabilities
  • Support marketing with insights for campaigns and messaging.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in a senior sales leadership role (Head of Sales / Sales Director level)
  • Renewable energy or construction industry experience is advantageous but not essential
  • You will have proven experience in B2B or B2C sales and a demonstrable track record of delivering revenue growth and meeting and exceeding sales targets etc.
  • Experience managing and scaling sales teams
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and motivational skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and pricing strategy experience
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Experience with CRM systems and sales tools.
