Mechanical Design Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team based in Cork. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of high-profile semiconductor and advanced manufacturing projects, with a particular focus on cleanroom environments, process utilities, and HVAC systems.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex, technically challenging projects within one of the fastest-growing sectors in Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical design solutions for semiconductor, cleanroom, and high-tech manufacturing facilities.
- Design and coordinate HVAC systems, including cleanroom ventilation, pressurisation strategies, filtration systems, and environmental control systems.
- Prepare mechanical layouts, equipment arrangements, and utility distribution drawings.
- Design process utility systems including compressed air, chilled water, heating water, process gases, vacuum systems, and other building services infrastructure.
- Produce engineering calculations, technical specifications, reports, and design documentation.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary designs with process, architectural, structural, electrical, and automation teams.
- Participate in design reviews, client meetings, and project workshops.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and client requirements.
- Support construction activities, commissioning, and project closeout where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.
Requirements
Essential
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical building services or industrial facility design.
- Strong experience in HVAC system design.
- Experience working on cleanroom, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, life sciences, or advanced manufacturing projects.
- Knowledge of mechanical utility systems and distribution networks.
- Experience producing mechanical layouts, equipment arrangements, and coordinated design drawings.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Strong understanding of relevant engineering standards and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

- Previous semiconductor facility experience.
- Familiarity with cleanroom classifications, contamination control principles, and airflow design.
- Experience with BIM workflows and clash detection.
- Chartered Engineer status or progression towards chartership.
- Experience with engineering calculation software and modelling tools.
