Principal R&D Engineer (NPD)
CREGG seek an experienced Principal R&D Engineer to join our Galway based client. The successful candidate will lead the technical architecture and development of regulated device and general wellness-based products from concept through commercialization. This role owns product specifications, technical feasibility, design integrity, and external engineering coordination.

Responsibilities:
Technical Architecture & Product Specification Ownership
• Define and author Product Requirement Documents (PRD), User Requirement Specifications (URS), and Technical Specifications
• Establish system architecture for electromechanical and general wellness-based products
• Ensure traceability between design inputs, outputs, verification plans, and risk documentation
• Approve final product specifications prior to design freeze
Design Control & Risk Management
• Lead design risk analysis (DFMEA, PHA)
• Define verification and validation strategy
• Ensure compliance with design control requirements
• Support regulatory submissions through technical documentation preparation
External Engineering & Consultant Management
• Act as our clients technical authority in engagements with mechanical, firmware, electrical, industrial design, and testing consultants
• Define scope of work and performance expectations
• Review and approve drawings, firmware specifications, test reports, and technical deliverables
• Escalate technical risks or scope deviations
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Required
• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent.
• 6+ years R&D/NPD experience in relevant industry, preferably medical device or other comparable industry ( Electronics, Mechanical, Automotive, etc.)
• Knowledge of engineering theories, methods and work measurement techniques
• Knowledge of design principles, FMEA, project management, regulatory requirements and standards, test development.
• Ability to mentor and coach assigned employees.
• Experience in electromechanical devices an advantage
• Demonstrated ability to balance compliance and commercial reality.
