Senior R&D Product Design Engineer

Our Clare based client are presently recruiting for a Senior R&D Product Design Engineer.
The Senior R&D Product Design Engineer will be responsible for human factors & user focused design, ideation, concept development, rendering, prototyping, CAD, material selection and documentation. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in design feasibility, requirement capturing, architecture, design, implementation, integration, and verifications. 
  • Design of fabric and adhesive wearable products.
  • Design of housings and enclosures for electronic based products.
  • Proof of concept design and prototyping.
  • Prototype development and test.
  • Designing plastics for injection moulding. 
  • Design finalization through to launch in manufacturing. 
  • Work in the development of sensor based wearable devices for the health sector.
  • Work with cross functional teams such as Industrial design, Mechanical design, Electronic and Quality engineering.
  • Evaluate and implement designs to ensure that all agency requirements ( FDA, CE, etc.) are being met throughout the process.
  • 2d and 3d CAD drawing set development.
  • Present Ideas to both internal team and external customers.
  • Interact on customer facing projects. 
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to product design and mechanical team. 
  • Preparing Project Management Plans incorporating Scope, Schedule, Cost, Risk, Resources etc by using project management methodologies and by working with appropriate functions to understand effort needed. 
  • Directing project execution by assigning tasks, tracking project schedules, identifying risks, and developing and executing contingency plans.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum Level 8 degree or higher in Product design/Mechanical designor equivalent engineering discipline.
  • 4 years of experience in Product design engineering. 
  • Background in life sciences or medical devices an advantage.
  • A strong knowledge of CAD. Solidworks preferred. 
  • Project management skills desirable. 
  • Interest in and experience of 3D printing.
  • Good communication skills essential.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to demonstrate creative thinking to solution design.
  • Customer-facing experience is essential, as this position will be dealing directly with customers and/or partners.
